A few years ago I started thinking about all of the things I did for myself to help me relax. Dinner with friends, shopping, nail appointments, and Netflix. As I was making the list I realized that these were things I did, but what I was really looking for a way to truly disconnect and recharge.
Around that time I found a class called yin yoga at my gym which sounded interesting. Not familiar with yin yoga?
From Wikipedia: “Yin yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga with postures, or asanas, that are held for longer periods of time… Yin yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body—the tendons, fascia, and ligaments. A more meditative approach to yoga, yin aims at cultivating awareness of inner silence, and bringing to light a universal, interconnecting quality.”
This sounded delightful! I could move my body in ways that would help ease the aches of sitting at a desk all day. It also sounded like yin could provided a nice break for my mind. The opportunity to focus inward. I gave it a try and loved it!
I now live a about a 2 minute walk away from a great yoga studio. I go to a yin or restorative yoga class at least once week.
After yoga, I go home, open a bottle of Wente Vineyards wine and grab a cookbook to read. I know it sounds a bit silly, but reading cookbooks is very relaxing for me. I love imagining cooking up delicious meals for friends and family and planning new recipes to try.
This summer my wine of choice is Wente Vineyards Morning Fog, but I also love the Riva Ranch. I curl up on the couch after yoga, put on some music, grab a glass of Morning Fog and a cookbook. For me, this is the perfect way to relax during the week.
This summer I’m also going to plan a getaway to Wente Vineyards. They have an amazing summer concert series with performances from The Band Perry, Seal, Alanis Morissette, Kenny Rogers and more! If you love music, you can learn about the Wente Summer Concert series here.
